Yesterday had a couple of highlights and yes they did have to do with sex. Actually sex workers!
First, I met a Ph.D. student who’s doing their research on sex workers in Shakespeare! As I understand it they’re interested in class and gender of sex workers during Shakespeare’s time period and how these issues show up in plays. Also, interestingly they noted that syphilis had many parallels to HIV in how people were persecuted and demonized. Definitely plan on staying in touch with them…
Then later I get an article from a friend interviewing the author of a book about 1920s French prostitutes. It’s linked here.
