So I’m working on a short piece for new friends at yogamodern.com. It’s called “on being grounded” and here’s a brief teaser. I’ll let ya’ll know when it shows up in the world.

Perhaps I shouldn’t qualify my experience with yoga, as if only having a few years with a practice makes what has come to me less valid. At the same time, it is important toward understanding how I came to yoga in the first place, and the lessons I’m beginning to learn from it.
Being grounded relates to a few teachings that carry a lot of meaning for me. First, since I came to yoga through a brain injury, feeling grounded is often a monumental task. Second, several yogis have lately echoed the importance of paying attention to the ground beneath our postures. Finally, I realize there’s an additional lesson about being grounded related to my experience with Native American rights.
