howling about true love
sipping my drink
gifted from a friend
I’m moved to consider
how tenderly hummingbirds
sip a flower’s nectar
is not that an expression of love
watching the exquisite anime film
howl’s moving castle
I’m moved deeply
by the expression of love
between Howl & Sophie
indeed it broke my heart
not in the way
that signals the sad end of
some passionate entanglement
no, my heart was broken open
filled to overflowing
stopping the movie to go outside
I howled at the moon
it wasn’t nearly full
but it’s make-believe
that animals only howl
when the moon is full
no, howling helps bring it to fullness
becoming full is what love is about for me
my experiences in life
have shown me that i can never
be completely certain about
what fills me
honoring the true love i have now
with my wife, soul mate
marks one vital part of what completes me
even as we find places
where are lives perhaps diverge
doing this might be seen to
cheapen love, question it
or make it weaker
rather, facing such doubts and fears
about our love, all love
provides inoculations and
deepens our understandings
of each other and ourselves
knowing that we can be vulnerable
together
that we can be present to change
the fluidity in our lives
brings us closer
makes our lives richer
howling at the moon
stirred up the dogs suddenly
was this awakening some passion in them
some desire quieted by city life
longing for validation
of the fullness in my life
the vibrant tapestry of words
images
love
passion
authenticity
i remembered another howl
listening to Allen Ginsberg read
his epic poem
brought my experience to a close
with his words of passion, sex
resistance, transformation, creativity
fullness and openness
all of this makes me
howl about true love
